Never Ship Your Wedding Dress

Our best tip for brides who have to travel with their wedding dress or bridal outfit is to never, ever ship your bridal gown. You want to keep your wedding dress with you at all times. This is true for brides who are planning a destination wedding and will need to travel with their wedding dress on a plane. This advice also applies for any bride who purchased their wedding dress in a place they do not live or are having dress alterations done away from your home.

When you get ready to travel home after your wedding dress alterations are complete, or when you are traveling to your wedding location, always be sure to carry your wedding dress with you. You do not want to ship your wedding dress or even put it into a checked bag for plane travel.

Don’t risk your wedding dress arriving late to your destination or worse, getting lost in transit!

How To Travel On A Plane

If you are a bride who will need to travel with your bridal dress, we have a few tips on how to make this happen when you are traveling on an airplane to your wedding destination.

As bridal stylists, we do not recommend putting your wedding dress into your checked luggage. You don’t want to add any additional stress to your wedding planning by worrying about your bridal gown getting lost or delayed in shipping.

If you need to take your wedding dress onto an airplane, your method for carrying your dress onto the plan may depend on the style and size of your wedding dress.

We recommend always carrying your gown onto the plane with you.

In order to carry your wedding dress onto the plane with you this may mean bringing your dress onto the plane in a garment bag or gently folding your dress into a carry-on sized suitcase to go in the overhead compartment.

You may even need to vacuum seal your wedding dress if it’s a ballgown style or large gown to get it to fit into a carry-on bag. If it’s in your budget, you could even buy an additional seat next to you on the plane to keep your wedding gown by your side at all times.

Unpacking Your Bridal Dress

For brides who are traveling with your wedding dress, you will want to be sure you have time to properly unpack your wedding dress. This is especially true if you’ve had to fold or vacuum seal your wedding dress in a bag to get it into a smaller suitcase. Be sure to add time into your wedding itinerary or timeline for unpacking and caring for your wedding dress.

You want to be sure you have time to care for your bridal dress before the wedding day so you will look your best. Make sure you hang your wedding gown when you arrive to your destination right away. Don’t forget to pack your clothing steamer or iron too so you don’t have any wrinkles on wedding day.
